Maynard Selby, the owner and operator of the Screw It Yourself hardware store, died in an explosion on Tuesday. Selby’s burnt and blackened corpse was found near the epicenter of the blast, which seems to have originated in his basement workshop. While the exact cause of the explosion is unknown, it appears as though Selby had been working on some sort of experiment gone awry.

Selby spent his early days in DE as a medic/firefighter for the DEFD. Over time, he became a regular fixture in the Red Light District and the Dark Room. A former member of Circus Maximus, Comedia dell’Arte and the Syndicate, Selby had, in recent months, become an upstanding citizen of Dead End. Friends said that he was always there when he was needed. Whether it be to a repair a broken TV, broken window or a broken heart, he always had a plan to fix it, or a cup of coffee to stew over it.

Vie MacClawden, a longtime friend, said that Maynard was quiet, well-spoken, intelligent, with a weirdly dry sense of humor, “He was one of my very first friends in this town, and one who can never be replaced. This town and the many lives he touched will never be the same without him.”
