On the afternoon of Saturday, November 28th, 2015, Public Services Dead End (PSDE) held its grand opening at the basketball court near the Dead End diner. Xelan Yheng, 20, is the CEO of Public Services Dead End, a business that deals in waste management and city cleaning. She is also the owner of the Dead End Pawn Shop.

Public Services Dead End has been commissioned by the city to keep the streets of Dead End clean through four activities: garbage collecting, street sweeping, recycling of materials and goods, and community service. The other key staff members of Public Services Dead End are Merabella MacClawden, in charge of community service, Bonnie, in charge of garbage collecting, and Eve Romana, in charge of recycling.

Says Miss Yheng, “The idea behind Public Services Dead End is that the local authorities no longer have to take care of cleaning the city. We do that now, as a privatized company. We cost only half of what it used to cost in government funding in exchange for us being able to keep everything we sweep. So, we’re going to try and make money by recycling and the reuse of materials.”

Together with the Justice Department, which is Dead End City’s community service branch, Public Services Dead End will offer criminals a temporary task as an alternative for jail time, possibly combined with psychological evaluation at the Dead End Medical Hospital.

“I would like to ask the people of Dead End not to destroy what they throw away, and to throw as much away as they can,” noted Yheng. “For recycling purposes, they can also bring appliances and old stuff to the Pawn Shop where we will take it off their hands for free. Remember, keep Dead End clean, grow a tree, and sort your garbage!”
